Typography about Language

Words and type. Two things I love very deeply.

First, as an English major at a junior college, as well as minoring in English at a 4 year institute, I love the English language. Words have a way of capturing my attention like nothing else can. Two nights ago I stayed up well past 2 a.m. reading a book, just because it was that good. The words captured me, and I couldn't put it down.

Second, as a journalism major, I love type. My job would be nothing without it. I love fonts. I love being able to work with type and find the perfect placement of words in an ad or on a newspaper page. Using different type styles and font sizes to create the perfect look is something that brings me joy.

So naturally, I love this video. It's the perfect marriage of words and type. The speaker's inflection and tone add so much depth to the message. I just love it!

My generation has definitely become complacent about language. Facebook, Twitter and texting have allowed us to become lax in our use of the English language, and it gets butchered beyond belief sometimes.

I am proudly a werd nerd and a member of the grammar police. Don't worry - I'll let you know if you have a dangling participle or a misplaced modifier.

-Jenn (with 2 N's)

(P.S. I promise a new word of the day soon.)
